Maternity Reflexology

£30 per treatment of approximately one hour

Maternity reflexology is a great way to look after yourself in pregnancy, alongside the care given by your midwife or doctor.

Two recent studies have shown that reflexology in pregnancy significantly reduced pain during labour, reduced the length of the first stage of labour and also improved quality of sleep in post – natal women. Also research carried out in 1993/94 by consultant obstetrician Dr Gowri Motha showed that first time pregnant mums who received at least nine maternity reflexology treatments during their pregnancy, had far shorter birthing times than those who did not have reflexology. On average, their labours lasted 5-6 hours and they required significantly less pain relief too. Other benefits can include:

  • General relaxation and reduction of stress and anxiety

  • Increased energy levels

  • Reduction of heartburn

  • Relief from backache

  • Help with oedema, constipation and insomnia.

Hormonal changes occur dramatically, provoking an alteration in many physiological functions. Reflexology can help restore balance in most of the cases, treating conditions symptomatically, alleviating and stimulating. These are a few examples of particular cases in which reflexology has demonstrated to be beneficial in pregnancy and as a preventive of serious conditions during labour:

•Anaemia

•Anxiety

•Appetite regulation

•Backache

•Blood pressure regulation (except cases of pre-eclampsia and eclampsia)

•Constipation or any change in bowel movement pattern

•To help prevent Gestational Diabetes)

•Haemorrhoids

•Insomnia

•Muscular fatigue

•Muscular tension

•Nausea and vomiting (morning sickness)

•Oedema

•Urinary tract problems (difficulty to urinate, cystitis, etc.)

However despite the fact that Reflexology is a safe therapy, some conditions are totally contraindicated to the Reflexology treatment during pregnancy :

•Placental abruption

•Placenta praevia

•Bleeding

•Continuous vomiting

•Toxaemia: Pre-Ecclampsia - Ecclampsia

•Pica Syndrome

•HELLP Syndrome

•DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis)

Fertility Reflexology

Planning a family is an exciting time for any couple, but it can be stressful too, which does not help the process! Being in optimal health prior to, and whilst trying to conceive is very important, and reflexology can help, by helping the body's systems to work together to create the best environment for conception.

While it is not a cure for infertility, it could help to balance your hormones, improve your circulation and aid the body in cleansing itself of toxins, allowing your body to be in the best emotional and physical balance. Perhaps even more importantly, it also aids with relaxation, and lowers the anxiety and stress a couple may experience when trying to conceive.

It is recommended to begin reflexology treatments a couple of months prior to trying for a baby to help prepare you both physically and emotionally. Fertility reflexology can be used as a stand-alone treatment to enhance your natural fertility or alongside conventional treatments, (such as Clomid), with fully medicated cycles of IUI, IVF, ICSI, or with donor eggs.

Please note; first treatment will include questions about your medical history in order to tailor your treatment accordingly, and ensure you are able to receive the treatment safely.
